Along with what John said
The export to desktop (US Only) provides you with a file that must be opened in desktop within 10 days, and the file has known problems, Some things do not export, inventory exports as service items with no history, payroll if you have it is exported as regular checks, these and other known problems have existed for over 9 years
see the limitations:
https://community.intuit.com/articles/1145409-export-limitations
Print out the QBO P&L, balance sheet, inventory valuation summary (if you have inventory), and sales tax liability as a minimum, compare the QBO reports to the same reports in desktop after you have a desktop company file - they must match, if not you have to find and correct the problems, intuit will not help
IMO if at all possible, it would be better to just re-enter all transactions in desktop

Unfortunately, the link (in the first response) to the page with instructions now takes one to a"page not found" message.
I need to move my company data from QBO to QB Desktop. What is the best way to do so? Searching trough help files, I found mention of IIF files, but no way to create them in QBO.
I can download XLSX files? Can I import theminto QB Desktop?
Please offer sggestions.

As additional option, utilize the data migration tool (i.e exporter and importer)
https://transactionpro.grsm.io/qbo

For the last resort, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.
Jut my 2 cents.

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, the importer will not run on Windows 10. I tried Win 8 and Win 7, but still no sucess.
Following the instructions on the QBO site, I did create an export of all the company data from the accountant interface. And I downloaded it. It is a Zip file containing 8 XLSX files that look like they contain all the data. Now, I only need to find a way to import those XLSX files into QB Desktop.
I hope someone has suggestions.
Thanks,
Phil

The option to download a file produces a file designed for third party app developers and is not intended for any individual to migrate their data.
Unless something major has changed>>>you MUST log in to QBO ONLY with IE10 or above. You cannot use Chrome or Edge or any other browser. Go back, access IE from within Win10 (it is hidden but you always can start with any page in Edge and then upper right three dots for tools and more. Under "more" you should find "open in Internet Explorer". Do that and then log in to your QBO and follow the procedure to export.

After downloading the file, I clicked Convert about 36 hours ago. QBW32 is using a lot of CPU, supporting processes (QBCF Monitor Service, QBDBMgr and QBIDPService_2) are using some, but much less than the main QBW32.
Since I had successfully downloaded all my data, I canceled my QBO subscription to avoid another monthly charge and expecting that I would have QB Desktop running by now.
I don't know if any progress is being made on the conversion, but I doubt it. There has been to indication of progress. QB Desktop has a blank (dark gray) screen with a header saying the conversion is running.
I decided to look into whether the conversion completed and just didn't announce the fact, but no.
I see there are files (related to this work, I suspect) on my hard drive, but opening the *.qbw file showed only an empty company. I attached the file list.
What should be my next step?

Great work in converting your Online data files to Desktop, IM-NewsWatch.
Please keep in mind that when converting between QuickBooks versions, some transactions may not be moved due to export limitations. To confirm that your data is successfully converted, I suggest running 2 reports the Balance Sheet and Profit Loss reports. You'll need to run these reports on an Accrual basis and for All Dates to ensure the numbers match in both programs.
You may refer to this article to complete the process. Go directly to Step 4: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop
I also suggest visiting the Get QuickBooks Desktop user guides article. This will help provide additional guidance on how you can navigate the desktop version.
Feel free to message again if you have follow-up questions. We're always around here to provide solutions. Have a good one!

Hi there, 951966.
Are you trying to move a QuickBooks Desktop account to your new computer? If so, you can use the Migrator Tool to transfer QuickBooks to a different computer. Here's how:
How to setup and use the Migrator Tool
Step 1: On the old computer
- Go to the File menu, select Utilities, and then click Move QuickBooks to another computer.
- Click I'm Ready, then create a one-time password.
- Follow the instructions on how to select the USB flash drive that you’ll be using. Then, wait for the files to be copied.
Step 2: On the new computer
- Insert the USB flash drive where the file is saved. Due to Windows security restrictions, the Migrator Tool won’t automatically open.
- Open the flash drive to view the file and double-click Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
- Enter the password you created, then click Let's go.
- Wait for the Migrator Tool to finish. Note: This will depend on the speed of your computer and internet, and the size of your company file(s).
If you're using QuickBooks Online, you just need to log in to your account in a web browser through this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/.
Please don't hesitate to reply or visit us again if you still need help with QuickBooks. We're always here to guide you.

Let me help you transfer your QuickBooks file to your new laptop, kbird14.
We can use the Migrator Tool to move QuickBooks Desktop and up to three company files to your laptop. Let' make sure your new computer is connected to the internet and a USB flash drive with enough free space to hold your QuickBooks files. The Migrator Tool will tell you how much free space you need and most people need between 150 and 250 MB.
We'll need to set up and use the Migrator Tool on the old computer. Here's how:
- From QuickBooks, go to the File menu.
- Tap Utilities, and then select Move QuickBooks to another computer.
- Hit I'm Ready, then create a one-time password.
- Follow the instructions to choose the USB flash drive you’ll use. Then wait for the files to be copied.
Once done, perform the following steps on your new computer:
- Insert the USB flash drive. Due to Windows security restrictions, the Migrator Tool won’t automatically open.
- Open the flash drive to view its files and double-click the file Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
- Enter the password you created, then press Let's go.
- Wait for the Migrator Tool to finish. This will depend on the speed of your computer and internet, and the size of your company file.
For the steps and details, see the Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer article. To move your company files to another folder on your computer, on and off your network, or to another computer, check out the Move your company files to another computer article.
