Thank you for reaching out regarding the export of your Chart of Accounts from QuickBooks Online, aconroy@conroya
There are several alternative and effective methods to accomplish exporting the Chart of accounts. However, the standard export option under the gear icon in QBO does not directly include the Chart of Accounts as a selectable list. Here are the steps for those workarounds.
You can export via the Account List report. Here's how:
- Navigate Reports.
- In the Type report name here, enter Account List.
- Under the More actions dropdown, select Export to Excel.
Exporting each account from the Chart of Account menu:
- Go to Transaction and click Chart of Accounts.
- In the Action column, select Run report.
- Click the More actions dropdown and tap Export to Excel.
Please note you can only import the account list, account name, type and detail type, and the total balance. QBO's import function does not support the direct import of account balances. You'll need to enter the opening balances manually after importing the Chart of Accounts.
For a more comprehensive understanding of exporting various data types from QBO, refer to this helpful article: Export your QuickBooks Online data.
Once the report is exported, you can now import your data. For detailed instructions, visit this article: Import your Chart of Accounts to QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, if you no longer need an account but want to retain its historical data for reporting purposes, make it inactive.
