customer portal
Is there a portal option that would allow a customer to login and update their credit card in our system, QuickBooks Online?

Thanks for posting here in this forum, Jeff-ocens. Let me share insights when managing customer credit card information in your QuickBooks Online account.
When processing your client's credit card, modifying their information through the customer portal isn't available. They need to have a QuickBooks Account, so can save and pay their invoices online.
To do this, you can open your customer profile and add their credit card information from there. Before doing so, connect your payment account to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) file. You may refer to these steps for more guidance:
- Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
- Click the Payments tab and hit on Lean More.
- You may now start your setup. Choose QuickBooks Payments.
- In the window, select the QuickBooks Payment account you want to connect. Then select Connect.
- Review the account info and make sure it's accurate. If everything looks good, select Connect.
- Once done, sign out and sign back into QuickBooks Online for the changes to take effect.
You can read this article for more details: Connect your QuickBooks Payments account to QuickBooks Online.
Once ready, you can now modify and update your customer's credit card information into their profile. To do this:
- Go to the Sales menu and click the Customers tab.
- Locate and select your customer and click Edit.
- In your Customer profile select the Payments and billing tab.
- Select Credit Card from the Preferred payment method drop-down menu.
- Enter all necessary information and click Save when done.
I'm including these resources to help you learn more about processing payments from your customer:
- Take and process payments in QuickBooks.
- What to do if your customer can't pay their invoices online.
I'll keep this thread available in case you require additional assistance managing customers' credit card information and payments. Just keep me posted in the comments below and I'll ensure to back you up. Take care and have a great day ahead!

Let me rephrase this... we would like to offer a way for one of our customers to update their credit card information. Is there a way (portal and option in there) where they can log in and update that information so that when we bill them next we will have up to date credit card info?

I appreciate you for returning to this thread and providing an update about your concern, @Jeff-ocens.
I understand the importance of a customer portal to your customers so they can update their billing information in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Let me share an insight about this feature you want to have in your QuickBooks account.
Currently, the feature to make a link or customer portal that can allow your customers to access and update their billing information is unavailable, you'll have to manually add it. For now, I recommend sending feedback.
Here's how:
- At the upper right corner, click the Gear icon.
- Under the Profile, select Feedback.
- Enter your comments or product suggestions.
- Then, select Next to submit a feedback.
You can also check this to track your request: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.
I will also include a helpful article that guides you on how to accept electronic customer payments for online invoices and in-person sales: Take and process payments in QBO with QuickBooks Payments.
Don't hesitate to leave a comment below. If you have follow-up questions about the customer portal or other QBO-related concerns. I will answer them in any possible way.

Consider to have a 3rd party payment processor with the customer portal to integrate with QBO.

I always wonder if those responses are from human or dollar store AI bots. I pray that wasn't a real person.

Pay higher transaction fees or $190 per month? Hell no!
Our solution is to migrate our recurring invoices off of Quickbooks. Freshbooks includes client portals and is $10 less per month. Even if we kept the lowest tier of QBO for our accountant at $38, the 2 combined is only $28 more than we pay QBO now.
