Other questions

I appreciate you taking steps to handle odd behavior in QuickBooks Desktop, JordanS1b. I have an additional set of instructions to ensure that you can use the application efficiently.

To start with, I recommend updating QuickBooks and checking your file type to ensure you're opening the right one.

Here's how:

  1. Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
  2. Ensure the file you want to open is a company file (.QBW). You can't open other file types, like backups (QBB) and portable files (QBM) the same way.
  3. Make sure your file isn't compressed or encrypted:
    1. Right-click the company file, then choose Properties.
    2. Select Advanced and clear the Compress, and the Encrypt checkboxes.
    3. Click OK.

If the problem persists, you may have a huge report or multiple windows set up to open automatically. If this is the case, QuickBooks can freeze on startup. To fix this, you'll need to open your company file without saved windows. You can refer to this article and go to Solution Two to see the process: Can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop This also provides another step to be taken to fix the issue you encountered.

In case you need additional guidelines for effectively managing your business using QBDT, you can read this article: Help guide for QuickBooks Desktop. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, and payments to name a few.
