Hello mikeshick,

Let's resolve the error message you received so you can continue working on your QuickBooks Desktop file.

First, let's open your company file correctly. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select the company file.
  3. Click Open.

If your file is located on a remote computer, you may check this reference on how you can access it correctly: Open a company file on a remote computer.

If the same thing issue persists, let's update QuickBooks to the latest release so it has the latest features and fixes. If the issue continues to persist, you can proceed to Solution 3 in this article: Solution 3: Run QuickBooks with admin permissions.

I've also added here an article that helps access your QuickBooks Desktop remotely: Set up a folder and Windows access permissions to share company files.

Don't hesitate to get back to the thread if you still have concerns about opening your QuickBooks program.
