Invoicing
When invoicing the product description used to show up when entering a product/service. My product codes have no logic so I need to see the description in order to know which one to select. Under the new layout, the description no longer shows. Is there a way to fix this?

I understand the importance of having the product description visible when entering a product or service in QuickBooks Online, @Forest2125. Rest assured, I'm here to provide you with the necessary information and assist you in creating invoices seamlessly with the new layout. Let's work together to find a solution to this issue.
Old and new invoice layouts are two different experiences of QuickBooks Online that offer almost similar uses and features.
To name the features that are unavailable in the new layout:
- Ship via, Shipping date, and Tracking no. fields
- Adding a new invoice Term
- Send Later option
- Print Later option
- Reference links displaying matched online transactions
- Subtotals
- Account Summary
- Price Rules
With that being said, the description of the products should still show. However, in the new invoice layout, you have to select the product first so its description will appear in the Description column. Please see the screenshot below for your reference:
On the other hand, if the products still won't show even if you selected them, I'd suggest using a private browser to see if this is caused by your browser's cached files. Use these shortcuts to access incognito mode:
- Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
- Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
- Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
- Safari: Command + Shift + N
Once the description appears, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This is done to speed up the process next time you do a transaction in QuickBooks Online. Also, an alternative way is to use other compatible browsers.

Your first screen shot illustrates my issue. In the drop down, the "description" used to be to the right of the "product/service" code. All of my product/service codes are numeric. I need to see the description to select the correct one. It is not a cache issue and still works in the old format.

Hi there, @Forest2125.
I understand how important seeing the description and code beside your product and service in your invoices. It helps you to see if you have selected the correct products and services. In the new invoice layout, this feature is unavailable. I'd suggest switching back to the old invoice layout if you still have the option.
To improve your experience in QuickBooks Online, you can send feedback to our Product Engineers so they know what to add to the upcoming updates in QBO.
Here's how:
- Click on the Gear icon.
- Under Profile, select Feedback.
- Write your comment or product suggestion.
- Click Next to submit.
You can create and send an invoice if a customer wants to pay you in the future, and you can also record those payments to connect them to your invoices to balance your account.
If you still need additional assistance regarding the updates in the new layout of the invoice, feel free to comment below. We're always here to assist you.

You CANT switch back to the old invoices. That was quite clear in the notice that went out.
I don't see how Intuit thinks removing basic items and features from their software is "better". How smokes... this is embarrassing for Intuit...
"Welcome to our new improved invoices where we removed some of the most important features, and added nothing else!"
Sad... Now you'll probably raise your prices after removing features. lol

I feel for you buddy.. most of the "updates" that were done were removing important features. Not sure how they can call that "new and improved"... I would suggest leaving as much feedback through QBO as you can. Everyone should. This is unacceptable for paid software.
