Hi there, @Miss1929.

I understand that you can't access your company file and other basic QuickBooks functions. I'm here to guide you through all the solutions to troubleshoot the issue you've encountered.

There can be several reasons why QuickBooks may fail to open the company file. Some of them are listed below:

  • QuickBooks company file is damaged or corrupted.
  • The same file is opened on a shared network.
  • Using incorrect methods to open certain files.
  • Using the wrong QuickBooks version to open files.

Now, let's see if the problem is with your company file or the QuickBooks program itself.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type “File Explorer” into the search and open File Explorer.
  3. Search for and find the QuickBooks.exe file. It’s usually in your QuickBooks folder.
  4. Hold down CTRL on your keyboard and double-click QuickBooks.exe. Don’t let go of CTRL until QuickBooks opens.

Furthermore, let's use the QuickBooks Tool Hub to resolve this crashing issue. This tool is used to troubleshoot network issues, company file damage, performance issues, and so on. To begin, launch the Quick Fix my Program tool from the Tool Hub to terminate any QuickBooks processes that are running in the background.

Follow these steps to download and install the Tool Hub:

  1. Close your QuickBooks.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file.
  3. Open the QuickBookstoolhub.exe file. It gets saved in the download folder.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

From there, let's run the Quick Fix my Program tool.

  1. In the Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

If the program continues to crash, you can follow the additional steps outlined in this article: Solutions for When QuickBooks Stops Working.
