The option to update QuickBooks automatically is set to Yes by default, Tony A.

It's commonly advised to retain it this way to keep your software up-to-date. Being able to switch it to No is only available on the Enterprise version. You may have an Accountant edition of the Desktop Pro or Premier since you’re unable to change it. 

Right now, I’ll make sure that our developers will know that you’d like to have this option in your account. In the meantime, I recommend sending feedback online for your patch and installation preferences. Just go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.
