Hi there, ruth10.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details on how multi-factor authentication works in QuickBooks Online. Then, ensure your client will be able to change the phone number.

Two-step verification is a setting in QuickBooks Online where you'll have to verify, using a code, that you're the one accessing your account every time. This disables the usual multi-factor authentication process that gives you the option for voice call, text, or email. With this, aside from the Get a code texted to: (number), your client has an option to resend the code through email. Your client needs to choose the Get a code emailed to: (email address) instead. That way, he/she can log in to QuickBooks account.

Then, once your client has already signed in to your QuickBooks Account, I reccomend advising your client to go directly to the Profile icon and click Manage your Intuit Account. From there, the client has the option to change the phone number to receive the verification code correctly.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Profile icon at the top.
  2. Choose the Manage your Intuit Account link.
  3. Select the Sign in & security tab.
  4. Click the Verify link. Then, choose the Change link that appears beside the previous number.
  5. Enter the updated phone number.
  6. Choose Save.
