Hi!
You seem like you know what you're doing here and the limitations of QB desktop. Could you please help me to understand my QB desktop limitations before I find out I'm barking up the wrong tree and waste a ton of time?
Basically I have a Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2012 license installed on my Windows 11 PC. My company is a couple years new and I found out last year that I can't use the bank feeds feature (not sure why exactly, either QB desktop is too old or the Windows 11 system not compatible? prob both ha!) to automatically get the transactions in there. Since then I haven't found a solution. But I recall in my old bookkeeping days I was able to import transactions with a CSV file as long as it was formatted the right way. I purchased some 3rd party Excel extension thing one time and it worked like a charm going forward. Similarly, I am thinking I should be able to do this now with my company that has little complexity.
Essentially I just need QB desktop to record expenses, categorize and create reports - literally just a bookkeeping tool. So my question to you is, could I use my 2012 QB desktop pro software to simply do this? Or will I run into other pitfalls and is it best to find another solution? Since it refuses to connect to the internet, it could just be my antisocial bookkeeping software in it's own little corner.
In a nutshell, for my corporation's QB bookkeeping needs:
- I just need to import transactions from banks and credit cards (potentially via 3rd party CSV import)
- I'd like to have a multi-company relationship for my personal bookkeeping ('company' 2) and my corporation bookkeeping (company 1) with my corporation having a liability account for business expenses that were paid by me personally (in order to pay myself back)
- I will enter payroll runs manually for salary paid to myself
- run basic P&L and Balance Sheet reports

I also don't know how I ended up on the UK thread and I've been paying QB online monthly for no reason cuz I hate it and I've been stuck with this tedious predicament. Would love to get started and land this system go forward.
