QB Desktop and QB Online are two different products. You can't use QBO Accountant version to open or review QB Desktop files.

thank you for your answer Fiat LUX
may I ask a following question then please.
I have recently transferred to QB online. Would you have a work around to view the old QBD data when the desk top software is abandoned. Is there a read only license available would you know?

Hi smartxs,
I'm here to share more information about the accountant's copy feature.
For security purposes, the functionality to review the QuickBooks Desktop data through your QuickBooks Online (QBO) via an accountant's backup copy is unavailable. To ensure your data is correct, you may add your accountant to your QBO account. From there, they can review your books, make corrections, and collaborate on any issues.
I'd also encourage you to send Feedback about the mentioned functionality. You can do so by clicking the Gear icon and then selecting Feedback.
To give you more information about the essential accountant's copy guide: Use the Accountant's Copy.
I'm always around if you have concerns about the accountant's copy. I'll be around to help you out.

Other Questions
If you're on a subscription license, I don't see any hope to run your QB Desktop program after June. I believe you may consider the following options:
1. Convert all data to QB Online or another accounting app
2. Use the Export Tool. Consider purchasing a 3rd party condense service to lower the file size.
3. Purchase a 3rd party service to convert data from QB Desktop UK version to QB Desktop US version.

Thank you for your reply Adrian_A.
Our accountant does have access to QBO and checking transfer flaws. It's just that this QBD non review closure, account data transfer along with the basic functions of QBO to review old data is very ill conceived.
If ever I have seen a top method of loosing loyal customers and frustrating the ones that have stayed to the point of last straw, then this is the way to do it, its almost as if a quick books competitor has planned and executed the switch over in order to win QB's existing customer base. Thanks again for your reply

I agree - we have 25 years of data which we cannot view -- we have transferred to QB online but our file was too large to transfer over so balances only. There is such a huge amount of company details (and legally that of which we are required to display) - which cannot now be viewed .... surely as you say there should be a licence fee to view only which is all we as loyal customers want! -- or some other software which we can transfer the data to to view !!!! ANGRY

You can buy a 3rd party service to convert your historical data to QB Online or QB Desktop US version if required.
