I did exactly the same. Uploaded the data file and downloaded on a laptop without QuickBooks installed. It failed. We tried it on another machine and again it didn't open at all. Tried again with the laptop with the software installed and it opened but as the current file, allowing me to input etc.
We are more than a bit concerned. The client in question are manufacturing software developers so not exactly IT novices.
