You're correct, the employee portal, also known as the QuickBooks Workforce app, is mainly for viewing pay stubs and entering general hours. It does not allow users to directly select Projects and Classes for each time entry. However, you can give them limited access to QBO that allows them to use the Weekly Timesheet feature (which includes the fields for Customer/Project and Class).

You'll need to create a special user role for each employee called "Time Tracking Only." This user type has very limited permissions where they can only enter their own time and can't see any of your company's financial data. Once the employee is set up, they'll log in to the QBO (not the Workforce app) and navigate to the Weekly Timesheet section. Also, for businesses that require more advanced time tracking features, QuickBooks offers a dedicated add-on called QuickBooks Time.
