Manage Suppliers and Expenses

Hello @homesafe1,

Welcome to the Community. I can help you set up VAT in QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks can calculate VAT automatically on invoices and sales receipts. You'll need to enable the feature first from the VAT section of the system.

Here's how:

  1. On the left navigation bar, click VAT and select Set up VAT
  2. Choose your VAT period, then add the filing frequency.
  3. Select your preferred reporting method and hit Next.
  4. Hit OK
  5. Press the Edit VAT dropdown and choose Edit rates in the upper-right corner.
  6. Add or enable the rates you want to use.
  7. Click Back to sales tax centre.
  8. Add tax categories to your products and services.

Once done, you can start using VAT on invoices or sales receipts. Here's how to automatically track VAT when you make a sale:

  1. Follow the usual steps to create an invoice or sales receipt.
  2. Make sure the Location of sale is correct.
  3. Check your taxable items in the VAT column.
  4. Select Save and send.

You can also check this article for more details about VAT, like how to check how much you owe, as well as filing VAT returns in QuickBooks: Set up and use VAT in QuickBooks Online.
