Let's achieve your goal so you can work with your QuickBooks company file comfortably, @Pamela1999.
The best way to access your company file from other computers is to set up a multi-user network. This makes it so one computer (the server) hosts your files while the other computer can be accessed as workstations.
To get started, let's first uninstall your QuickBooks and reinstall it using the Custom and Network install type on the server computer. Let me guide you through the steps.
- Install QuickBooks on the server computer.
- Use Custom and Network install for your install type.
- Choose I'll be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer and I'll be storing... in the event you want the full version on your server. If you'd only like the computer to host your files, pick I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer.
- Continue with the on-screen instructions to complete your installation.
Once QuickBooks is installed on the server, choose if you'll be keeping your file on the computer's local hard drive (recommended) or if you want to store it on a mapped network drive.
Then, you can begin setting folder permissions and installing our Database Server Manager.
I'm also adding these articles to learn more about the hosting service:
Keep in touch if you need any more assistance with this, or there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back, @Pamela1999.
