Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop 2020

Learn what’s new and improved in the latest updates to QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and Enterprise 20.0.

We update QuickBooks regularly to give you a better experience and fix issues. These release notes explain what's new and improved.

Each new update includes all the changes from earlier updates.

If you have automatic updates turned on, QuickBooks will download updates for you. You can check for updates manually at any time.

Release 15 (R15) - June 2022

Assisted Payroll 401(k)	You can setup a Guideline 401(k) from within QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. Forms are preset with employee/company info. Contributions are sent automatically to Guideline with no extra steps for you. Only available in QuickBooks Desktop Assisted Payroll.
Enterprise subscription	The Enterprise subscription dashboard can also be found in the Discovery Hub.

Built-in browser	Find out more about changes to the internal browser in QuickBooks Desktop.
Money Transmission Licenses (MTL) Payments Receipts	Added minimum required fields and disclosures in Print customer copy of Intuit Processed online payment receipts as part of MTL compliance.

User Management

For Accountant versions, when creating a new company file with QuickBooks 2020, the Admin will be prompted to login to their Intuit Account.
When opening an existing Company File, the Admin will be prompted to sign in to their Intuit account. This change is already in place for non-accountant versions.
Intuit account Primary Admin can change the Primary Admin from QuickBooks. Select Company, Users, and then Intuit Account User Management.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where your 1099-NEC Memorized report didn't warn you when using unsupported dates. 1099-NEC Memorized report will prompt you to change your date range from 1/1/2020 to 12/31/2020.
Fixed an issue causing the Process Payment Receipt window to show incorrectly for low-resolution displays.
Fixed an issue causing a Sales Receipt out of balance error when recalculating tax after making sales tax item nontaxable.

Automated Statements	Business owners who remind their customers for their overdue balances can now automate the process of sending monthly statements with ease.
PDF Preview	Preview PDF of the attachment being sent in the same window as the email without any additional clicks.
Customer Groups	Stay organized by creating customer groups that you can contact or manage separately and use the same group for sending payment reminders, automated emails and any promotional emails
Customize Payment Receipts	Customize payment receipt formatting, including logos, for a professional and consistent look across your customer communications.
Bug Fixes	Fixed an issue that caused QuickBooks to quit unexpectedly while upgrading from an earlier version of QuickBooks. Fixed Unit of Measure issue preventing item import when using advanced import with Excel. Fixed an issue in Help when accessing Search with no search term entered. Fixed an issue transmitting Rl-1slips to Revenue Quebec

What's important about Release 7?

Batch Delete

Users are able to batch delete unlinked sales orders similar to the batch delete for invoices, bills, and checks

What's important about Release 6?

Intuit Account Login	The Admin is required to log in to their Intuit account when: Creating a new company file Opening an existing file
QuickBooks Time Integration	Creating a new QuickBooks Time account will now require use of your existing Intuit account login.
GMail Security Fix	Sending mails from QuickBooks through Gmail's secured option will nowshow a pop-up window instead of an embedded browser in order to comply with additional changes to Google's privacy policy
Bug Fixes	Fixed an error where the "See History" link for an invoice appeared blank because credits were applied to it. Fixed an emailing issue where sending T4 slips to employees was leading to an employee's T4 slip was being sent to another employee's email ID. Fixed the issue where wrong message (QuickBooks is unable to send your emails to Outlook. Close any open Outlook windows and try again) popped up when user intentionally closed the Outlook window without sending mail.

What's important about Release 5?

Enhanced Advanced Inventory Features	Provide an efficient, cost-effective order fulfillment process using the Pack-Ship workflow to help fuel productivity through improved accuracy and order turnaround time. Includes capability for Android mobile application to handle warehouse operations of pick, pack, express pick-pack and receive. Ability to track all order statuses on a single dashboard that will help you stay on top of relevant order information and updates. Improved Pick process via batch selection of orders that helps create all pick-lists in at one time. See Use the Sales Order Fulfillment Worksheet Cycle count: Helps to track inventory in a way that helps reduce pilferage & costs while improving accuracy. It also comes with an integrated mobile experience.See Cycle Count in Advanced Inventory
Landed cost v2 (QBES)	Have the flexibility to calculate landed costs for transactions under closed accounting period as well. Added the option to use COGS account for Landed cost calculation in addition to Other Current Asset account type. Added the option to choose the print bill functionality with or without Landed cost. You can filter Shipping and Handling bills using the bill status.
Preview PDF attachment with email	QuickBooks automatically shows a preview of the email attachments.
CA Payroll tax compliance	Payroll has been updated to ensure continued compliance with Canada payroll tax laws.

What's important about Release R4?

All changes in this release are to internal systems and have no impact on the user experience.

What's important about Release R3?

Reports	Ability to collapse columns in reports with jobs and sub-classes
Payment Reminders	Automated payment reminders can be combined into a single email for customers
Other updates	Updated to comply with new Gmail requirements QuickBooks 2020 is now compatible with Microsoft Office 2019Improvements to the user experience for activating payments
Bug Fixes	Corrected help links for landed cost (QBES) Fixed issue with item warning message when class is not assigned (when prompt for assigning classes is turned on) Resolved QuickBooks crash when linking a merchant account to the company file Fixed the Service Messages unavailable error in Update Now option Can enter up to 400 Ship to addresses via QuickBooks

Fixed exception handling issue when selecting the Statement Writer "Cancel" button

Performance enhancements for FIFO enabled company files (especially effective for large company files)

Resolved issue where you had difficulties resizing the reports window when using multi-monitor mode with a vertical monitor

Selecting back on Self-Help window now takes you back to the previous page, not the primary search screen

Resolved issue where you were unable to send general journal entries from QuickBooks
