You have not stated why your client went to India in 2019 and what his intentions were.
However it sounds like he was planning a short duration trip.
You should refer to this CRA page... https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/information-been-mo...
But it sounds like your client should be treated as a resident of Canada and should report his worldwide income on his 2019 and 2020 returns
But review that CRA page and if necessary contact the CRA for clarification
