Employees and payroll
It's good to see you here in the Community, @mary156.
State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rates must be entered as a percentage in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'd be happy to guide you through the steps in setting it up correctly.
- Sign in to your QBO account.
- Click the Gear icon, then select Payroll Settings.
- Select the State Tax.
- Go to the State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section.
- Choose Change or Add new rate.
- Refer to the notice from your state and enter your new rate. If the rate is provided as a decimal, you must enter it as a percentage. (For example, enter 1% not 0.01).
- Enter the Effective Date provided in the notice from your state.
- Click OK.
If you aren't sure about the SUI rate, I recommend contacting your state's unemployment division to confirm.
I'm adding this article for more guidance: Update your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate in QuickBooks or Intuit Payroll.
You might also want to learn more about the payroll tax compliance in each state. This article will provide the links for your state to find details on tax forms, withholdings, unemployment, and other tax, e-file, and pay information: Payroll Tax Compliance Links.
Please let me know if you need clarification about changing the SUI rate. I'll be standing by for your response, @mary156.
