Employees and payroll

I'm here to help ensure you're able to file your W-2 for North Dakota, Peggy27.

Updating your payroll tax table is a good start before e-filing your W-2 forms in QuickBooks Desktop. This is to ensure that your data is accurate and ready to use.

Once done, you can follow the steps below to file the forms:

  1. Go to Employees, then select Payroll Tax Forms and W-2s, then select Process Payroll Forms.

  2. Select North Dakota State W-2 form to e-file.
    1. In the  File Forms section, select ND State W-2s - ND State W-2 Worksheet (E-file Only).
    2. If you do not see the form, select the Forms button, and select Make a New Form active. Select the State drop-down button, and select ND. Select the form, then select Add Form.
    3. Select File Form.
    4. Review the Select Filing Period year, edit if necessary.
    5. Select OK.
  3. Complete the North Dakota State W-2 Interview and verify your data.
    1. Verify you have the current year version of the form.
    2. Select Next and complete the Company interview.
    3. Select Next to scroll through each employee W-2 to review and verify your data.
    4. When you are ready to file your North Dakota State W-2s, select Submit Form.
  4. On the Submit Form window, select the E-file button.
  5. On the Agency Login Information screen, enter your e-mail address and phone number. Select Submit.
  6. Within 24-48 hours, you should check the status of the form you submitted.

You can split the lists in half like what you did for the Federal, just make sure to notify the state agency. However, if you're not able to break it into two, I'd suggest preparing the forms outside the system.

For your reference, you can visit this article: E-file Federal W-2 Forms. This will provide you details about the filing deadlines. Also, this will give you a link on how to print a copy of the form.

Let me know how it goes by leaving a reply below. I want to make sure you're able to file the form before its deadline. Feel free to get back to me. Have a good one.
