Employees and payroll

Thanks for joining the thread and taking the time to inform us that you're having the same issue, @jhunter007. Allow me to assist you and provide some information about work locations in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I understand the inconvenience this limitation in QBO may cause for your company. It can be hard when the software doesn't provide the specific options you need to accurately handle the tax calculations for your overseas employees who are US citizens.

I can see how having the ability to enter and set up non-US locations for employees would bring convenience and accuracy to your payroll process. However, it's important to note that QBO US is designed to work with US-based addresses that match the United States Postal Service (USPS) address locator. As a result, addresses that don't match this locator are considered invalid within the system.

While this limitation may not meet your specific needs, I want to assure you that I understand the importance of accurately calculating taxes based on the work location rather than the work address. With that being said, it is helpful to explore our available third-party applications that'll enable you to do this. You can check out this article to find one: Apps help QuickBooks run better. Just type in some keywords to maximize the results and I'd recommend checking the app's reviews for better recommendation.

Additionally, I've included these articles in case you need to pay or file state and federal taxes online and correct your payroll data.

If you have any further questions or concerns about managing your employee's workplace, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thank you for your understanding, we appreciate your business and look forward to assisting you further.
