Banking
I recognize how vital it is for your business to use the bank feeds feature, KJG27. I'm here to help ensure you can connect your American Express account to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Let's update your Financial Institutions Directory (FiDir) to get the latest information from your financial institution. You can perform the process manually or automatically.
Before we begin, create a backup copy of the company file to prevent accidental loss and the following tasks:
- Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
- Make sure you have a supported version of QuickBooks
Next, head to the Bank Feeds Center to update the FiDir. Here's how:
- In your company file, go to the Banking menu at the top bar to select Bank Feeds and Bank Feeds Center.
- Select the Refresh account(s) icon and choose Sync all for this bank from the drop-down.
For more in-depth information about the process, see the following reference: Update the Financial Institutions Directory in QuickBooks Desktop.
Regarding your concern @Julie L2, you can set up a bank or credit card account with multiple sub-accounts to easily link it to your bank and reconcile downloaded transactions. When connecting the account, you'll need to know first how your Financial Institution (FI) sends the downloaded entries.
If your banking data download to one account, link only the parent account. If the transactions download to individual accounts, connect the sub-accounts and not the parent account.
I've attached an article that will help you link your account in the desktop program: Set up or edit bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop. You can also follow the troubleshooting steps in this article when you encounter bank feeds errors and reconcile your account:
- Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors in QuickBooks Desktop
- Error OL-200, OL-202, OL-206, or OL-226: Your last online connection was not completed
- Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop
