The ability to download Discover to QuickBooks is being discontinued. However, you can convert the file downloaded from Discover to a supported file type. You may also read through the suggested options in the thread for further details.
Additionally, if you cannot convert to a supported file type to import, I agree with you in entering it manually into QuickBooks. Furthermore, the other way to import is you'll want to consider looking for a third-party app at the QuickBooks App Store, that allows you to import the transactions from your Discover account to QuickBooks Desktop.
