Hi DebHC,
As long as you still have the account in your Chart of Accounts, you can add or remove its transactions, and then reconcile it. What kind of update are you referring to? Do you want to add transactions?
To inactivate your account after reconciliation, you'll want to go to your Chart of Accounts, click the down arrow on the account line as shown below, and choose Make inactive.
On the other hand, you can go to the main support page, scroll down a bit, and click More Topics if you want to see some references from QBO.
