I can enter the negative balance but it will not reconcile.  I just get a blank screen rather than the normal reconciliation screen.  Now it is impossible to reconcile anything.

Let's get this sorted out and display the transactions in the Reconcile page, lbg3093.

Let's make sure the Hide transactions after the statement's end date option is not turned on in the Reconcile page. You can uncheck that option located on the top right of the screen to see the transactions for that period (if it is activated).

If not, it's possible there's a damaged data on the company file preventing the transactions to appear. You can follow the steps in this article to troubleshoot the issue: Resolve data damage with your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Then, try accessing the Reconcile page again to see the transactions for Checks, Payments, Deposits and other Credits.

I'm having the same problem when reconciling a CC with a negative balance.  When I try to enter the - sign, it gives me the calculator, not a negative sign. 

I'm using a mac. Maybe that's why?

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Let's go ahead and pull up the discrepancy report to view what's causing the difference.  

1. From the Reports menu, select Banking, then choose Reconciliation Discrepancy. 
2. Choose the appropriate account, then select OK. 
3. Evaluate the report to identify any discrepancies. 

Once already figure out the discrepancy, make sure to correct it and start the process of reconciling.

However, If all fails, let's consider to verify and rebuild data. It could be the file is corrupted.

you did not answer her question. She doesn't have a discrepancy she has an ending negative balance for her account.  Her statement was a negative amount, however Quickbooks doesn't let you enter a negative balance amount in the reconciliation. I am using mac

I was able to copy and paste the number from excel and was able to enter the negative number as the ending balance.  It shouldn't have to be that way especially with QB's being around so long. oh well.
