Currently, turning off a new default that saves information is unavailable. However, you can merge the original customer record with a new account that does not contain stored credit card data, Carol20.

Since QuickBooks Online (QBO) automatically fills the previous payment information in a customer profile, you'll have the option to prevent old credit card details from showing. You can follow these steps to merge customer accounts and clear stored payment data.

Suppose a customer profile named SampleCustomer currently displays credit card that you no longer want on record. To address this, create another customer account (SampleCustomer1) without storing credit card details and merge the two profile. To do so, follow the steps provided below:

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard, click on the Customers tab.
  2. Select Customers on the left panel and locate original customer profile SampleCustomer.
  3. Click the Edit drop-down arrow and choose Merge contact.

  4. From the second field, select SampleCustomer1 from the list of customer and complete the process by clicking Merge contacts.

After the merge, the previous record (SampleCustomer) will deleted and transactions will now be tied to the new profile (SampleCustomer1). Please note that once information are merged, you'll have to re-enter again the new customer details under the profile and credit card details in the original account will not carry over to the new profile.

By following the steps above, this ensures that credit card details are not being stored in the customer profile. If you have any other concerns or encounter issue with QuickBooks Payments or anything related to your customer let us now. We're always right here ready to assist you further.
