Yes, you're right you can inactive the account since deleting the account isn't possible. 

 

If you want to zero out the inactive account balance, you can activate it and manually delete the transactions

 

Here’s how:

 

  1. Go to Accounting on the left panel to choose Charts of Accounts.
  2. On the All Lists page, click the Account History link for the bank you’re working on.
  3. Click on the entry to expand the line and then hit the Delete button.
  4. Press Yes to confirm the deletion.
