I've got the steps to switch off the Data Protect, Software. I'll lay them out below.
Beforehand, please ensure that your QuickBooks and Intuit Data Protect are updated. You can download the latest releases of both software by visiting these links:
After that, you can proceed with deactivate the service. If you don't have an active subscription to IDP or other QuickBooks products bundled with Intuit Data Protect, follow these procedures:
- Remove Intuit Data Protect from the Startup folder:
- Windows 10
- Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
- Right-click Intuit Data Protect and select Delete.
- Windows 10
- Cease all IDP processes:
- Open Task Manager.
- Navigate to the Processes tab and locate the following:
- IntuitDataProtect.exe
- IBUEngHost.exe
- QBIDPServices.exe
- Select each item and hit End Process.
- Stop all IDP services:
- Windows 10
- Press the Windows + R buttons simultaneously on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
- Input services.msc.
- Once the Services window opens, find and double-click QBIDPServices.exe.
- Under the Service status section, click Stop. Then, choose Disabled from the Startup type drop-down.

- Rename the Intuit Data Protect folder:
- Go to: C:\Users\(Windows Username)\AppData\Local\Intuit\Intuit Data Protect. The Windows Username is the name of the user currently logged in to the computer.
- Locate and right-click the folder.
- Choose Rename. You can also add the word "Old" as you modify the folder's name.
- Restart your computer to allow your device to apply the changes made.
However, if you have an active Intuit Data Protect plan or bundled products such as QuickBooks Plus or Enterprise, refer to these instructions:
- From the System Tray, locate and right-click Intuit Data Protect. Then, choose About Intuit Data Protect.
- Once prompted, Press CTRL + F2 on your keyboard simultaneously to open the IDP Diagnostic Tool.
- Hit Log out.
