Allow me to chime and provide additional information about backing up and viewing of company file.
After the conversion process, you can back up the company data using a flash drive. Before restoring the file, make sure your boss is using the same QuickBooks version.
A company file can't be opened in another QuickBooks Desktop version. For more information about the limitations, check out this article: Company file compatibility.
If it meets the requirements, let’s go ahead and restore data. Let me provide you the step by step process.
- Go to QuickBooks, then choose Preferences.
- Select Backup, then double click the .dmg file.
- Drag the company file ((.qbXXXX file extension) to the folder where you want to store it .
- Drag the Attached Documents Library folder to the location where you store the QuickBooks company file.
- Click on the copy of the file.
- Go to File at the top menu bar, then choose Open Company.
- Select the .qbb file, then click Open.
- Click OK.
- Enter a name for the restored file, and then click Save.
