Welcome aboard to the Community. Let me share some clarification about the chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.
Currently, an option or ability to add a new detail type is unavailable. For now, I recommend using the closest one available for the account.
As long as you have the right account types, your transactions will hit your books correctly. Detail types only help you name accounts appropriately to show in the reports in a detailed way.
You can also consult an accountant for expert advice about the best option for your accounts. This way, your books will be much more accurate and error-free.
Please know that I appreciate your input on this feature. We always improve the features in QuickBooks Online, and this preference might be added in the future.
