I'm here to share some insights with you about exporting your Chart of Accounts. QuickBooks allows you to enter and change account numbers anytime. However, doing this can affect the posted entries.
As a workaround, you can manually remove the account numbers after exporting the data.
I've added the steps below to add account numbers. Before doing so, let's enable the Use account number feature.
- From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
- Select Accounting .
- Go to the Company Preferences tab.
- Tick (✓) the Use account numbers field.
- Click OK.
Then, you can add account numbers.
- From the Company menu, select Chart of Accounts.
- Locate the account you'd like to add account numbers.
- Click the Account drop-down menu.
- Select Edit Account.
- On the Number field, enter the account number.
- Select Save & Close.
Once done, you can now export the data.
