When will payroll tax settings include the option of the new MN UI additional assessment of 5%? Why is QB payroll behind on this???
I understand the importance of keeping payroll tax settings current to ensure compliance. Let me provide some clarity and guidance on this matter, @shaarim.
Currently, QuickBooks Online Payroll does not include the new 5% Minnesota Unemployment Insurance (MN UI) additional assessment in its payroll tax settings. Our payroll team is actively reviewing updates from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to ensure these changes are incorporated into QuickBooks Payroll as soon as possible.
While we do not have a specific date for when the option will be added, most states' effective date for these changes is January 1st, 2025.
In the meantime, you might want to consider sending your tax notice to us so we can assist you further in updating your tax rates in QuickBooks Online.
To begin this process, please handwrite your Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) on the first page of your tax notice. If you have more than one notice of discrepancy, please send each one separately.
If you are currently using our payroll services, here’s how to upload the notice:
Once we receive the tax notice, we’ll send an email confirmation to the Principal Officer and Primary Admin on file, including a case number and additional details. When we complete the review, a tax specialist will send another email outlining the required resolution, any steps we have taken on your behalf, and any additional actions you may need to take.
Please note that the Tax Notice team will send an acknowledgment email within 3-5 business days. If the Principal Officer or Primary Admin does not receive an email, please contact us to confirm whether we received it.

If you have further questions about the MN UI additional assessment or anything else, I'm here to assist you, @shaarim. Happy Holidays.
You need to know that online chat support is absolutely awful. The rep spent more time asking my name, company code, email, social security # (which I wouldn't give!) than answering my question. None of that info is necessary to verify me if I access chat support THROUGH my account while I'm logged in. It was a complete waste of time. I can send you the chat transcript if you want. Quickbooks should be ashamed of its chat support.
This needs to get updated ASAP to include the 5 % additional assessment! We need to run payroll this week, and MN UI taxes will be calculated incorrectly. It is crazy to me that this hasn't been added yet.
I understand the importance of including the new 5% Minnesota Unemployment Insurance (MN UI) additional assessment in QuickBooks Online Payroll, @BookkeepingSylvia. Rest assured that our compliance team is diligently working to implement these changes as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, you can consider forwarding your tax notice to us so we can help you more effectively update your tax rates in QuickBooks Online.
To start this process, please handwrite your Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) on the first page of your tax notice. If you have multiple notices of discrepancy, please send each one individually.
If you are currently using our payroll services, here’s how to upload the notice:

I appreciate the offer to help us update our tax rates, but we have already updated everything except this additional 5% assessment. Unless forwarding our tax notice will result in that being added somehow, this response is not helpful.
We are a week into the new year and still don't have the option on our end to add this additional assessment required of the state of MN. Insanity!!
I was chatting with one of your "chat specialists" whom advised me that I needed to upgrade my Quickbooks in order to be able to add this new tax. You all really need to get on the same page.
I'm having the same issue!!! I was on the phone with QB customer service for over an hour this morning and didn't get anywhere. First, they told me to clear my browser cache, shut everything down, and restart QBs. Didn't work. Next, they told me I didn't have the correct administrator access to add this tax category. I shared my screen, and they confirmed I did have the correct administrator access. Next, they told me to wait until the end of the quarter to give the State of MN time to set up the tax rate. What??? I told them that it didn't make sense because the tax went into effect 1/1/25, and I need to run payroll next week. After an hour, they said my company's PO Box address is the problem and is not allowing QBs to calculate the UI tax rate. What??? QBs have been calculating the UI tax rate and Workforce Development Assessment tax rate for my company over the past 20 years without any problems. So until I change the company address, they can't help me??? QBs need to own up to this problem and get it fixed right away.

Ugh...the quarter is now over and there still isn't a fix.
I'm in the same boat. I did allllllll the things that they told me and spent countless hours on chat or phone "support". They even closed my case in the "resolution center" saying that I should adjust it myself!! There's literally no way to do it yet. I'm irate and cancelling as soon as I get a fix ready. After 11+ years .... Super disappointed.
I just spent 1.5 hours online to be told that she just found out that they are still working on a fix for this. Totally unacceptable that they don't have knowledge of this problem before they waste 1.5 hours of my time. Also, unbelievable that they still don't have a fix.
Sounds about right!!!
I just went into the system and did my own sui submission/payment. I unlinked QB O ability to do this as I saw their draft filing report and, surprise surprise, it was incorrect (again!!). I have zero trust in this company anymore. Wil be cancelling ASAP.
They still haven't fixed it. The rep had no idea what I was talking about and said I have to submit my tax notice.
I am also incredibly frustrated. I actually went to the MN UI site and uploaded my wage detail and they calculated the tax for me for the first quarter. Well, then when I went to manually enter that payment on the Intuit site, it's giving the wrong numbers because they still haven't resolved this correctly. It is June 3rd today and this tax went into effect 1-1-25. SIX MONTHS LATER and it's a mess. One rep I spoke with today told me I had a bookkeeping issue (on my end) and that I needed to upgrade my QB subscription for help in fixing that. Umm, NO. My bookkeeping is correct, you just aren't getting this tax entered correctly! Has anyone else found a fix yet?
