Thank you for getting back to us, @drylightn.
Yes, you're right. We used to have the option to switch QuickBooks Online (QBO) to Dark Mode. This is one of the beta features we have for QuickBooks Labs. Recently, we've removed the QuickBooks Labs and this includes the Dark mode and QuickBooks Themes.
In the meantime, you may consider checking your browser's settings on how to set it up to Dark Mode.
Here's more information on how you can get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online. It'll guide you in knowing your dashboard and the different views in QBO.
Let me know if you need more information about the dark mode option in QBO, I'm always here to answer them for you. Have a wonderful day!
It's great to have you here today, @drylightn.
Although it's great to have the option to choose your theme when using QuickBooks Online (QBO), as I check here on our system, the option you're trying to use is unavailable or has rolled out already.
If you want this feature to be accessible inside the program, I can help you send feedback to our Product Development Team. This way, they'll see your feature suggestion and consider adding it back in future program updates. I'll write down the steps to get you going:
For more details, see this page: QuickBooks Online Support.
In addition, here's an article to help you manage invoice payments inside QBO: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
The Community team is ready 24/7 in case you have any additional QuickBooks-related queries. Don't hesitate to post here again. We've got your back. Stay safe, and have a good one!
So to be clear I follow what you are saying, there used to be an option to switch to dark mode using quickbooks online, but then they took it out and it's no longer available? Was any reason given for this? I can't imagine that this wasn't a popular feature.
Thank you for getting back to us, @drylightn.

You're welcome, @drylightn. It's our pleasure to help.
I can totally see how the option to put QuickBooks Online in dark mode is beneficial to our users like you. That would be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I’ll take note of it.
I also encourage you to leave the feedback from within your QuickBooks account. Here are the steps:
Check out this article for more information about providing feedback to make the program better: How do I submit feedback?.

I'm always here if you have further questions about your dark mode feature. Have a wonderful day!
It was a popular feature, though it never fully delivered a true dark mode experience. Another arbitrary decision that in no way helps justify the ever increasing monthly rates for service.
Agreed. Would be nice to have a native solution to save our eyeballs vs relying on hacky browser plugins, especially since we are being forced to go the subscription route.
It's remarkable that QBO adds features that nobody really wants but it more than happy to remove already developed solutions that most users want.
It is now December 14, 2024 and no Dark Mode yet (that I can find).
What is the EA for this feature to be returned to QBO ... my eyeballs are burning our with all the white BG.
Hello, @docdoc.
I know how important the Dark Mode feature in your end as it can be less hassle to navigate inside QuickBooks Online. However, there's currently no timeframe for when the feature will be returned here in QuickBooks Online.
If you would like to have this feature accessible again here in the software, I can assist you in sending feedback to our Product Developer team. By this, they will take into consideration your suggestions and bring them back into the system.
Here are the steps to follow:
You can track your feature requests through QuickBooks Online Feature Requests.
Moreover, you can get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online. This source will guide you in knowing your dashboard and the different views in QBO.
Comment down below if you have further concerns about the dark mode option in QBO. We're always here to help you.
We've done this already (requested the feature), it's just a shame there hasn't been an effort to put it back in.
Completely agree. Quite sad that it isn't back yet.
I've got a solution, I'm in dark mode as I type this:
If you're not using chrome, download & install it.
In the browser web address bar (where you enter website addresses) type or copy in the following exactly: chrome://flags
Press enter
After the chrome://flags address opens, you should see a search bar at the top of the page
Search for 'dark'
You should see an option to force all websites to be in dark mode (even if they don't offer dark mode)
Make sure that option is enabled, it's called Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents
You should see a button after making this change, the button wants you to relaunch Chrome, if you don't see the button just close chrome and relaunch it manually.
After re-opening Chrome, QBO should be forced into Dark Mode, even though it's not offered directly via QBO.
I actually really like QBO, but the support is lacking (no offense), please reach out if anyone needs further assistance, bookkeeping support, or anything else: [email address removed]
Thank You!
FYI
This solution basically tells Chrome that white is black & black is white.
While the solution works in my experience, websites will look a little funny sometimes b/c your enforcing dark mode while the website doesn't offer it themselves. For example my website only offers dark mode so with this solution it looks a little funny.
You may want to bookmark the Chrome://flags address so that you can quickly disable & enable this feature. It doesn't really bother me so I don't ever disable it, but it's important to know that website will look a little funny at times.
Thanks for this! I normally use Firefox, and there is a "dark mode" plugin for that sorta works with QBO, but it's not perfect. Also don't like using it on financial sites since it's a 3rd party solution. The chrome implementation looks better, so i may just resort to that if I'm gonna be staring at it for a long time. The only thing I wish you could do is tell chrome to use dark mode on QBO, but not on other sites. Oh well. Thanks for the tip!
Actually since you use Firefox normally that's perfect for what you want b/c you can install chrome, apply the dark mode flag, bookmark QBO in Chrome, drag the bookmark to your desktop, & then use Firefox as your web browser but when you need QBO click on the Chrome bookmark saved to your desktop (if the bookmark wants to open in Firefox then you may have to first open Chrome & then click your bookmark). Alternatively you could install Brave (a privacy focused Chrome derivative) & do the same thing or you could use multiple chrome profiles (accessed via settings), the flags should only apply to one Chrome profile at a time.
Best solution for that:
Install chrome
Apply the dark mode flag
Bookmark QBO in Chrome
Drag the bookmark to your desktop
Use Firefox as your web browser
For QBO click on the Chrome bookmark saved to your desktop
If it wants to open in Firefox, you may have to open Chrome first & click your bookmark in Chrome Alternatively, install Brave (a privacy Chrome derivative) & do the same
Alternatively, using multiple chrome profiles (accessed via settings), may work
