Getting the Most out of QuickBooks
Updated September 14, 2022 10:20 AM - last edited November 17, 2022 04:18 PM
Update: We have confirmed with our bank partners that banks will remain open for this last-minute holiday. Out of an abundance of caution, we took these steps to ensure all employees received their pay on time. The steps laid out in the communication below remain in place.
***********************************************************
Dear Canadian QuickBooks Customer,
On Tuesday, September 13, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared that Monday, September 19, would be a one-time Canadian federal holiday in recognition of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. If this becomes a Canadian bank holiday, there may be delays in direct deposit paycheques and tax remittances. Whether your direct deposit schedule is two or five business days in advance, we recommend you create the direct deposit paycheques one business day earlier for the next week.
What action is QuickBooks taking for Canadian direct deposit paycheques already dated Monday, September 19?
To ensure your Canadian employees are paid on time, QuickBooks is taking the following action: QuickBooks will process your Canadian direct deposit paycheques one day early, and employees will be paid on Friday, September 16. QuickBooks will withdraw these funds one day earlier on Wednesday, September 14.
Why can I no longer create a Canadian paycheque or tax remittance for Monday, September 19?
To avoid additional possible delays related to the just announced holiday, we are now blocking additional direct deposit cheques and electronic tax remittances from having settlement dates of September 19. If you need to pay your employees on Monday, we recommend that you provide your employees with a paper cheque. Otherwise, create your direct deposit cheques and tax payments for Tuesday, September 20 or any day after that.
What if I have a Canadian direct deposit Auto Payroll scheduled for Monday, September 19?
Your direct deposit Auto Payroll will be withdrawn one day earlier and be deposited into your employees bank account on Friday, September 16. Your business will have one less day to review and edit the Auto Payroll.
What if I created a tax remittance dated Monday, September 19?
If Monday is confirmed as a bank holiday, any remittance dated Monday, September 19, will not be received until Tuesday, September 20. Note that any Federal CRA remittances, usually due on Monday the 19th, will be due on Tuesday, September 20, if this becomes an official bank holiday. Also be aware that this may impact your ability to make remittances through your bank on Monday the 19th.
Is this being considered a Canadian statutory holiday?
It appears that this will depend on the individual province's decision as to whether this will be considered a statutory holiday or not. We will follow up with additional information if there is critical payroll information related to this that needs to be communicated.
We hope the steps taken to ensure your employees are paid on time provides your business with the support it needs through evolving circumstances.
