Hello there, @Annastasia.
Let me share some clarification about importing mileage data from a CSV file.
Currently, the option to import mileage data to QuickBooks Online (QBO) is unavailable. For now, the only available method is to add the previous trips manually into the system.
To track business miles using the app, use your QBO login, and follow these steps:
- Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
- Select the menu ☰ icon and then Mileage.
- Select the Unreviewed tab.
- Find the trip. Swipe left to categorize the trip as Business. Or swipe right to categorize it as Personal.
- Add a purpose for the trip.
- Select the vehicle you used.
- Select Save.
I appreciate your input about being able to import mileage data into the system. We continue to improve the QuickBooks features, and this preference might be available in the future.
While we assess this option, I recommend you visit our QuickBooks Blog to stay up-to-date with all the changes.
You can also check this article for more details about tracking mileage in the Online version: Automatically track mileage in QuickBooks Online.

Since we do not use the feature your talking about is there anyway someone can import them for me as I am not able too. We need to have this feature and not be limited to only one way to track mileage.

Hi there, @Annastasia.
I understand how important this file in your QuickBook.
CSV files can only be used when importing transactions and lists in QuickBooks Online. See Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online article for more details about the importing process. Visit our Bring in your data page for more insights about importing your data.

Yes you can - sort of.
If you want to import historical mileage from QB desktop to QB online (as I did), try this:
(1) In QBD, run up the Mileage by Vehicle Detail Report (Mileage, Mileage Reports, Mileage by Vehicle Detail)
(2) Choose the time frame for the report (I chose All)
(3) Under the Excel menu, choose Create New Worksheet
(4) Give it a name and IMPORTANT - choose "Create a comma separate values file"
(5) Now open the file and massage it so that you have the following column headers:
Date, Type, Trip Purpose, Vehicle, Start Address, End Address, Distance, Deduction, Logging Method
(6) I used the following example info in mine:
01/04/2021, Business, Site Visit, XC12 ABC, NA, NA, 175, 0, Manual
(All rows in my file had Business, Site Visit, XC12 ABC, NA, NA, 0, Manual column entries, only things changed were Distance and Date)
(7) In QBO, go to Mileage, click on arrow next to Add Trip, then Import Trips
(8) Select and Import the CSV file, and you should be good !
Why on earth Intuit couldn't add an import of mileage from QBD is beyond me. But then I've just moved to QBO and I'm starting to find it's limitations. Already looking for an alternative....
