Once your company is accustomed to the software's interface and functionalities, changes can be challenging, Randie. I've got alternatives to help you get back to business quickly.
There are several factors that can cause QuickBooks to crash unexpectedly for different companies. A key reason is that some versions of QuickBooks no longer receive updates. Without these updates, users can miss out on important security fixes and compatibility improvements needed for the software to work well with newer operating systems or other software.
Since you're using the QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019, please know that this version is unable to receive necessary security updates and patches. Although it can run on the latest macOS, we're unable to confirm that the application will work smoothly on your Sequoia operating system.
I understand you don't want to pay additional monthly fees, however, the best thing we can do is to move to the online version or upgrade your company file to the latest version. This will help you utilize your general ledger, depreciation, check, and journal entries in QuickBooks seamlessly.
Moreover, here are the steps to upgrade the company to the latest version:
- Click the Help menu, and choose the Upgrade QuickBooks.
- Pick the Upgrade for Free.
- Select the Let’s Go button. It will automatically download and install the new version of QuickBooks.
- When the upgrade finishes, choose the Open QuickBooks option.
- Activate or register the new QuickBooks version.
- Enter the License and Product numbers, and select Next.
- Choose Register by Phone or Register Online.
- Sign in to your Intuit account. Then, select Save & Next.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. Once done, choose Start using QuickBooks to close the window.
If you decide to move your company to QBO, the complete steps are provided in this article: Move from QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, if you want to create a backup file before moving or upgrading to other QuickBooks plans, follow this article for the detailed steps to restore them and get back to work anytime: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.
Should you have any further questions about the compatibility of different QuickBooks Desktop for Mac versions, please let us know in the Comment section. I'll be around to lend some help.

Hello there, randie4620. I'm here to provide further clarification about your compatibility issue with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.
You can continue using your QBDT for Mac 2019, but please keep in mind that this version has been discontinued. As a result, you will no longer receive security updates, patches, or access to live technical support for any issues that arise, nor will you have access to other Intuit services that integrate with QuickBooks Desktop. Please refer to this article for more details: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
Currently, the only compatible versions of QBDT for Mac that work with Sequoia are:
- QuickBooks Mac 2024 R5.1
- QuickBooks Mac 2023 R7.2
- QuickBooks Mac 2022 R12.1
Since the option to update for free is unavailable, I recommend following Chrea's suggestion to reach out to Fiat Lux for further guidance.
Additionally, I'm adding this article again about creating a save point for your company file: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.
Please return to this thread if you have other concerns with QBDT for Mac, randie4620. The Community is always available to help you.
