Change Filename from Mustang to Martin
Quickbooks Forum 261124 Change Filename from Mustang to Martin
Dear Fellow Quickbooks users
I am using an old version of Quickbooks, only for some rental properties, and a very small business I have. I don't do anything online. No need. Up til about 5 years ago, I kept books on Quickbooks for a rental property I owned, Mustang. I sold the property but kept the quickbooks file on my hard drive.. Recently I began renting out another property, Martin.
So I resurrected the Mustang file and renamed the company to Martin and began recording transactions. But now I find that when I try to log in, the company file is still named "5033 Mustang Way QBW". What's more, I can't find the Mustang file on my hard drive to rename it.
I need some help to find the file and rename it so I can find it when I log in to Quickbooks.

Thanks for sharing detailed information about being unable to locate the Mustang company file on your hard drive, @coppens1. We'll ensure that you can find and change its name to Martin after this.
The reason you're unable to locate the company file in your hard drive, it has many existing root files. If it wasn't deleted, you can easily locate the file by connecting the hard drive to your computer.
Feel free to follow the steps below:
- Connect your hard drive to your computer and open the Windows Start menu.
- Enter File Explorer from the search bar and click it to open.
- Select your hard drive from the navigation bar.
- Type *.qbw, *.qbb to locate all files. Ensure to include the asterisk (*) before the extension. You can also search for *.qb for QuickBooks.
Moreover, detailed information is available in this article: Find QuickBooks company data files and backups.
Wishing to ensure that your old company file can be opened to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Feel free to read this article: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

How did you rename your old file. If you were using a backup file to restore and create a new name, you should be able to find the old file via Windows Explorer.
