WHEN will Intuit get this resolved? We're supposed to put EVERY other activity on hold because Intuit cannot get their product to play nice with Sonoma?

MacOS Sonoma officially released today. When can we expect an update to QB Desktop for Mac 2021 to restore functionality? Currently upon opening, I only receive the spinning wheel and application not responding until I have to force quit.

Hi there, jpark720.
At this time, there's no mentioned ETA for when macOS Sonoma (version 14) will be compatible with QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021. The program doesn't fully support yet which might cause the issue you're encountering in the system.
Furthermore, we recommend running the QBDT for Mac program on a supported operating system. Here's an article for your reference: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021.
Additionally, you can visit and read this article for more details about storing a backup copy of your business: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file. It also gives you step-by-step instructions on how to set up automatic backups of your company files.
Click the Reply button if you have follow-up questions about the system requirements. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I must be the only dummy who got Sonoma installed just to find out it broke quickbooks and now I cannot invoice clients. 🤦🏻

Nope. I'm another dummy. And now I have a lot of invoices needing to go out. I can't even pull them up to copy or even see. WT?

Yeah, I made that mistake too. I then downgraded my OS. It's pitiful that Intuit, unlike every other software maker, can't have their product ready for a new OS.

I have the same problem. Open to the ribbon menu, and then click on register and it crashes. Quick books needs to get product working on SONOMA asap. Can not believe that this is taking them this long.

Third dummy. I would like someone at Intuit to let us know when this will be resolved, I invoice clients at the end of the month (3 days).

Unless a miracle happens, I recommend downgrading your OS to Ventura. Hopefully, you have backups. That being said, a downgrade ought not to obliterate your stuff.
For the money we all pay for this product, this is TOTALLY unacceptable.

This is a known issue for several months now. I have been testing Sonoma on a number of Mac's with different configurations and when you open up any QB Mac version under Sonoma, it spikes the processor to 100% usage and then crashes and requires a force quit.
The development teams are aware of the issue, however I have not heard any feedback on when this will be resolved. (I'm in the same boat and had to use an older 'vintage' Mac that is running an older OS to get back up and running with QB.)
Please be patient - I'm sure that patches will be coming soon!

I feel you! I just hope that more people find this message before upgrading and realizing there's issues that are not patched yet. I'm bad and never keep a backup of my OS - When I upgrade, I jump in with two feet. (All of my data is backed up though...)
Once I found the issue, I reported it and raised it immediately with both Intuit and Apple. I was hoping that there would be a mid-beta fix, however that wasn't the case. I just hope now that the fixes are forthcoming.
I just don't know how far back Quickbooks is going to patch. (Will they just patch the current version (forthcoming 2024) and two versions back (2023, 2022) or will they include 2021 as well?
I can't speculate as I don't know, however I am hoping that they do the right thing and go back as far as they can to ensure that people can get back into QBMac.

Today is my invoicing day. Unbelievable that there was no warning whatsoever that QB is currently incompatible with Sonoma. Intuit, you have a couple days to get this fixed or I'm taking my business elsewhere!

I'm curious, where would elsewhere be? It could all be part of a plot to push everyone to QuickBooks Online. There they can ding you for $100 a month!

It's been years since I've looked for an accounting package for my business, so I don't know at the moment. I can figure out invoicing, though my bigger problem is access to all my data. I talked to Apple and learned that my only option to get back to Ventura is to wipe my laptop and go from there.

I am having the same issue EVERYONE else is having. You start the program and then it becomes unresponsive. The only thing to do is "Force Quit."
