I can help you fix this in no time, hvmgr.
There are a few reasons why this error message appears even without using our payroll service. Here are the possible reasons why:
- Outdated QuickBooks Desktop application.
- Not having admin rights.
- Installation of the software is not done properly.
To fix this, ensure to update QBDT to the latest release. It gives you a better experience and fixes any software-related issues. Here's how:
- Go to the Help menu and choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
- Select Update Now.
- Check the Reset Update box to clear all previous update downloads.
- Click Get Updates.
- Restart the software when the download is complete.
- Accept the option to install the new release when prompted.
Once done, run as administrator:
- Open the Windows Start menu.
- Type “QuickBooks” into the search.
- You should see your results listed in the Search window.
- Right-click on the QuickBooks version and the year you wish to open.
- Select Run as administrator.
If the same thing happens, we can proceed with updating Windows Permission. Feel free to utilize this article for more details: Fix payroll errors: The file you specified cannot be opened and The file exists.
