Are the limits the same as the desktop versions? Does Intuit publish a table?

Hi AndrewShiftGate'
Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. You'll find it a great place to get answers to your questions. Paying attention to the details is an excellent way to stay on top of your books. I can share the information you're looking for.
QuickBooks Online character limits in fields:
•Email address field when sending an invoice to customers allows 100 characters.
•Custom fields have a 30 character limit.
•Description columns on an invoice have a 4,000 character limit.
•The customer notes field (in the customer center) has a 4,000 character limit.
•The customer message field on sales forms has a 1000 character limit within six lines. If you use more than six lines, only the first six will show.
•The name field on an account in the Chart of Accounts allows 100 characters but no colons.
•The Description field on a voucher check may be cut off if it contains more than 42 characters.
If you have any further queries, reach out. I'm here to help.

For customer name field, the chart gives a limitation of 41 characters. Seems my version is allowing about 27 characters then it continues on the following line. How is it possible to "widen" the field to accept up to 41 characters? Can this be done? When our invoices print, it looks really unprofessional to have the first names on the first line then the last name on the next line, or the last 3 digits of the postal code on the next line down.
Fix?

Thanks for reaching out to us regarding this QuickBooks feature, @Imtired.
We recognize the need to have an option to update the name fields for printed invoices to accommodate long names. However, this feature is not introduced yet.
I want you to know that the changes in the program are released based on certain several factors. We're unable to provide the turnaround time on when new features are released in QuickBooks, since this is handled by the Developers Team.
Please know that you can share your suggestion within the program through sending a product feedback. Follow the steps below in a web browser:
- Click the Gear icon and choose Feedback.
- Enter your suggestion for our engineers on the Feedback box.
- Once done, press Next to send it.
If you need further help with the processes and features in QBO, please let me know in the comment below. I'll be right here to share some more information about QuickBooks tasks. Have a nice day!

you didn't answer my question - field is supposed to accommodate 41 characters. I've got far less than that. Why will it not work?

Other Questions
Yes, very frustrating and unprofessional. Quite common to have two individuals in a household with different last names and the field does not accommodate.
