You can use the search function in looking for the customer statements or payments in QuickBooks Online. Here's how to:

1. Click on the Magnifying Glass.
2. Go to transactions search.
3. Adjust the filters to find type of data. Example Payment.
4. Filter other fields like Reference no to Last Modified date.
5. Select other fields.
6. Click on Add Filter.

I recommend also going directly in the Customer transaction list to view the transaction you needed. 

1. Click on Sales tab.
2. Click on Customers.
3. Select the customer's name and under Transaction List select the transaction type you needed.
4. Click on View/Edit option to see entire transaction.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is this, I have received a payment with a previous statement number as the reference. I need to know who the payee is (from the statement number) to apply the payment to the correct customer. So I need to find where the previous statements are so I can search for the statement number to find which customer it is to apply the payment.
