I can show you how to adjust the column width of the report in QuickBooks Online, @david252.
First, try checking the computer's display settings to make sure you can view the entire account's name. To display all pages and reports properly. Check this article for more information: Unable to see the entire page in QuickBooks Online.
If you still need to adjust the report columns, you can hover your mouse beside the column header and drag the scale width icon to the left or right.
Here's how:
- Go to the Reports menu and run the report that you'd like to customize.
- Hover your mouse on the column border until you see the scale width icon.
- Drag the icon to adjust the column width.
Here's also a guide on how to run reports in QuickBooks Online and to customise reports in QuickBooks Online to get the most out of it.
Fill me in if you have other questions about generating reports and customizing them in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Have a wonderful day and keep safe!

When displaying reports, the columns will not go smaller. I can drag and make them wider. What happens is every column to the right moves to the right. I can then return it to the "standard" size, but cannot make it smaller by dragging to the left. Its a problem because often the columns are far too wide and I cannot see everything on my screen.

Let me join this thread to help you with reports, david252.
You'll want to zoom out the page so that you'll see the entire report. This could be the reason why you can't see everything on your screen. Simply press Ctrl + minus (-) on your keyboard.
Also, you can hide the left panel by clicking the burger icon or three horizontal lines at the top. This way, you'll have enough space when viewing the report.

Thank you for responding. However the question is not being addressed and is in fact avoided in every other post raising this issue. My big issue is I want to make the width of the columns smaller. The reson doesnt matter so I dont want any work around. I just want to make some columns narrower. I can make them wider and then shrink to default size, but I cannot shrink less than whatever the defaultmis for each column ( and it is different for every column). On the desktop version I can make columns any size I want. On the online version I am stuck when trying to reduce column size. I have been a long long time Quickbooks user going back decades so I can do most things. It appears there is no way to reduce column size below default - which is often way too big.

I took note of this feedback of being able to resize columns, david252.
I've submitted this suggestion and it might be added to one of our future updates. While we can only resize columns to a certain width, you'll want to export the report and adjust the columns from there. You don't need to zoom it out in Excel and can adjust the columns to your preferred size. Let me show you how:
- Go to the Reports menu.
- Locate and select the report.
- Click the Customise button to add and remove filters.
- Select Run report.
- At the upper-right, click the export icon > Export to Excel.
You can check out our Customise reports on QuickBooks Online page for more details.
Feel free to visit our blog for more feature updates. Let me know if you have other questions. Take care!

I am having the same issue and I get so sick of them answering everything but what you are asking for. Just letting you know you are not alone.

Thanks for joining the thread, blemac.
There are two ways on how you can adjust the columns on a report in QuickBooks Online. You can manually adjust it by hovering your mouse beside the column header and drag the scale width icon to the left or right or you can adjust your browser's zoom settings.
For further customisation and adjustment on a report you can consider exporting the report into an Excel file and make adjustment there.
Feel free to drop a comment below if you need further assistance. Thanks.

Once you customize your columns to the appearance you want, how do you get it to STAY that way? Every time I leave the screen, it reverts back to the default and it's driving me crazy! Help Please!

Hi Beckwith27,
Welcome and thank you for taking the time to post in the Community.
I understand that it will take time and effort to always adjust column widths in reports. While QBO doesn't have the option to save your adjustments, feel free to submit feedback by clicking the Gear icon and selecting Feedback. This way, our product development team can consider making improvements in future updates.
In the meantime, you can consider making customisations to filter the data that you only need.
I'm just right here if you have any other questions about reports. Take care and have a good one!
