Hi Roland B,
Welcome to Community! It's essential that you're able to electronically submit your T4 slips to the CRA. There have been some recent updates, and you can follow this link, to review the Changes to T4, T4A, T5018 XML Filing to CRA.
Quickbooks Desktop has now added a field "Representative Identifier (RAC)" to the EFile T4 page. This is where you will type your RepID and then Submit. You should now be able to upload the .xml file to the CRA.
Should you require additional assistance, please don't hesitate to contact our QuickBooks Desktop specialists at 1-833-317-2226, Mon-Fri: 9am-8pm ET.
Feel free to reach back out with any other questions. We would be glad to help!

I get the same frustrating error. I am waiting on the phone to speak to a rep to see what is going on. In all the years efiling I have never run into this issue. Seems after they revised the web site this has happened.

Same here. This is beyond frustrating! I sign in using Represent a Client so does this means I can't file?

Hi there tonycwwong,
Thanks for reaching out about your T4 forms. QuickBooks Desktop Payroll is a great tool able to help you pay your employees for the hours they've worked. I can point you in the right direction for assistance with these forms.
For assistance with setup for T4 Forms, you would need to reach out to the support team outside of the Community. They'll be able to assist you in making sure all is set up properly for your forms to be generated. You can reach them using the methods outlined in the Intuit Canada QuickBooks Desktop software support policies.
If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out here.

Hello @tonycwwong ,
When you click on the EFILE button and the EFILE T4s window comes up, you must enter your CRA RepID # in the yellow highlighted field. Then click Send. At that point Quickbooks' internal browser will open and require you to login through 'Represent a Client' where you follow all the same steps as before.
Some employees who file on behalf of their employer may not have a CRA RepID. If this is the case, you must apply for one. To get a CRA RepID you must now use your current personal CRA 'My Account' login using either a Sign-In Partner or a CRA user ID and password. Click on 'Add Account' and choose 'Represent a Client'. Once you go through that process and verify your identify with the required documents, you will be issued a RepID 7-digit alphanumeric code. Then you must provide your employer with your RepID and the employer must login to their 'My Business Account' and authorize you using your RepID code and assign you a level of authorization.
Hope this helps and good luck everyone!

Go to the Setting Gear Icon in the top right corner, Payroll Setting, Federal Tax, select to Edit and update the Rep ID (RAC)

I believe you're speaking about QBO. The original poster was asking about QB Desktop, which is quite different.

Hi Roland - I found that with QB too. They couldn't help me. I called CRA and she helped me get the T4's filed. I sign into the CRA web site with the "Represent a Client" because I don't own the company and if you have an access code, you can file them that way. When you E-File through QB, it creates an xlm? file and that's what you upload on the CRA web site. Call around 8:00 so you're not on hold for hours. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I file T4 returns for clients using Quickbooks desktop. I received the same error. I had to edit the XML file that QB desktop creates. QB desktop uses the company file client name as transmitter and the client business number as transmitter. I opened the file in Notepad and entered my business number and name as transmitter and my RepID. The file then was accepted with no issues. I see this as a QB problem, not CRA. Can't get through to CRA anyway.
