Employees & Payroll
Hello,
Welcome to the QuickBooks family. I'll be happy to help with your payroll deductions. QuickBooks Desktop offers a feature-rich payroll service that lets you manage your employees' wages in a few simple steps. If you wish to assign a threshold amount on the CPP and EI contributions of a specific employee, follow these steps:
- Select Payroll Centre
- Select the employee
- Select Payroll Info
- Select Taxes and TD1
- Uncheck the default EI and CPP
- Under Other taxes, create your custom deductions. Here you can assign the threshold amounts as needed.
- Select OK
- Select Save changes
Going forward, you'll see the new deductions applied when running payroll for this employee.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

There is no "other taxes" area under Employees anymore, as I write this in 2022. Is QBO not smart enough to automate a cut-off of CPP contributions in their payroll system? SAGE can do it. Payworks can do it. Help.

Hi Mcfinnbookkeeping,
Thanks for joining us here. QuickBooks Online Payroll calculates the the CPP contributions in accordance with the Canada Revenue Agency. When the maximum has been reached, QuickBooks will automatically stop calculating the CPP and you can run payroll with confidence.
I hope you find this to be helpful. We're here if you have other questions or concerns!
