I am getting errors when trying to import a journal using a CSV file. It says an a/c and name do not match, but I have checked and they are present in QB.

Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community for assistance, Paul.

I understand you're encountering errors when trying to import a journal entry using a CSV file, specifically with a message saying the account name or number doesn’t match, even though the accounts are present in QuickBooks.

This error occurs due to a formatting mismatch in your CSV file. To fix the issue, you’ll need to ensure your file is formatted correctly, as QuickBooks has specific requirements when importing journal entries.

Here’s how you can correct this:

  1. Before importing, make sure account numbers are turned off in QuickBooks. This ensures the import goes smoothly.
  2. Once the journal entries are imported, you can turn the account numbers back on.
  3. If your journal entry contains subaccounts, you’ll need to format them correctly in the CSV file. QuickBooks requires the parent and subaccount names to be separated by a colon.
    For example:
    Correct: ParentAccount:SubAccount.
    Incorrect: SubAccount.

For step-by-step instructions and detailed guidance, check out the article Import Journal Entries. It explains how to prepare your CSV file and provides a sample for comparison to ensure correct formatting.
