How can I DELETE old accounts from my chart of accounts?

I need to delete some accounts from my chart of accounts. NOT just make them inactive. These are:

1) experimental accounts that have no archival value

2) duplicates of accounts that were created during a restore (marked "deleted")

These need to go away.

(Note: I want a hard DELETE so there is no way these get mixed up in the future. Not just a "make inactive" which is a boneheaded way to run things.)

How can I DELETE old accounts from my chart of accounts?

Hi Cdisfn,

I understand that being able to remove duplicate or unused accounts is important for keeping your Chart of Accounts organized. While this feature isn't currently available, I recommend sending feedback so our engineers can consider adding a delete option in future updates.

  1. Select Settings ⚙, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Select Next to submit your feedback.

In the meantime, you can repurpose the accounts. If you need to add an account in the future, you can reactivate an inactive account and change its type and detail type. However, please note that this may not work for all account types.

Another option is to merge the duplicate accounts with their corresponding active accounts.

Feel free to return to this thread if you need more help managing your accounts.

Sure... and they'll listen to that feedback and get right on it. As I've been researching this further, it looks like a request that has been REPEATEDLY made for years, so I don't have much faith in anything changing.

Quickbooks is the Microsoft of accounting software. And that's not a compliment.
