Won't let me run credit cards

Hi there, @Cyberplumbing2! I'll share some information about this below.

To begin, if you’re referring to your credit card being declined for a QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription, you'll receive an email informing you that the payment couldn’t be processed due to the card being declined. Below are some possible reasons why a credit card may be declined:

  • Incorrect account number
  • Expired credit card
  • Exceeding the card limit or overdue payment
  • Card flagged as "negative file" (e.g., reported lost/stolen, pickup requested, etc.)
  • General decline without further details from the processor
  • The issuing bank refuses to electronically authorize the card.
  • The billing address in QuickBooks Online does not match the address on the credit card statement.
  • Prepaid cards (not accepted due to our address verification process)
  • Card billing address must be U.S.-based (currently, cards with billing addresses in U.S. Territories, such as Puerto Rico, American Samoa, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, are not accepted).

If the issue still persists, I recommend contacting our Live Support team to further check your account information and identify the cause of the problem.

However, if you’re referring to your customer’s credit card payments being declined, here are a few things to double-check:

  • Confirm the credit card number is correct. Most credit card numbers are 16 digits, except for American Express, which has 15 digits.
  • Check the card's verification code. For most cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover), it’s the 3-digit code on the back, while on American Express, it’s a 4-digit code on the front.
  • Ensure no special characters or spaces are entered in the credit card number or other data fields.
  • Use the customer’s address as listed on the official USPS website.
