Vhart of Accounts

Desktop QB 2024-Mac

For years I have had 2 Credit Card accounts. Suddenly one has dropped off the Chart of Accounts. It still exists. It can be found. I can enter its name in the Enter Credit Charges routine, and successfully enter charges to it. BUT, it is not on my Chart of Accounts anymore, thus not available as a menu choice. I have to do a search for the account, and use that result to open its register. It is all there, but where is "there"? Any ideas? Where does it exist.

Hi @Mooreproperties,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your situation. I understand how frustrating and confusing it can be to see an account disappear from your Chart of Accounts (CoA), especially when you rely on it to manage your finances. Let’s work through this together and get everything back in order for you.

It’s possible that your account isn’t visible due to the large number of accounts in your CoA. Resorting your list can help reorganize it and make finding the missing account much easier. Here’s how:

  1. From the Lists menu, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Check the box for All Names to view all entries in your list, including inactive ones.
  3. At the top left of QuickBooks, select Edit.
  4. From the drop-down menu, choose Re-sort List.
  5. Click OK to confirm.

Once the list is resorted, double-check whether the missing account reappears.

You can also visit this article on managing accounts to learn more about how the Chart of Accounts works in QuickBooks Desktop.

This process should help restore access to your missing credit card account in your CoA. If you have any other questions or need assistance recovering other accounts, don’t hesitate to return to this thread. My team and I are just a quick message away, and we’re ready to support you as you manage your tasks.
