Hello jkjmartin,
Your credentials used to connect QuickBooks Online (QBO) to HMRC for Making Tax Digital (MTD) may have expired or become unauthorised. This typically occurs when the link between QuickBooks and HMRC is no longer active. Connections automatically expire every 18 months for security purposes.
To reauthorise your MTD connection, please follow these steps:
- Click this link to complete the steps in the product.
- Go to Edit VAT/ITSA Settings.
- Turn off MTD.
- Reconnect QuickBooks to HMRC using your valid MTD credentials.
For more detailed guidance on resolving MTD issues, refer to this article: Fix MTD (Making Tax Digital) issues in QuickBooks (VAT and ITSA).
If you continue to experience the same error, we recommend contacting our Live Support Team. They can securely review your account settings and assist with reconnecting HMRC to QuickBooks.
Here’s how to reach them:
- Click the (?) Help button in the top-right corner of your QBO account.
- Scroll down and select Contact Us, then follow the prompts.
- Choose your preferred communication method to connect with our team.
