Need to relink to HMRC MTD. "Take Action" leads to page that doesn't allow for relink. How can I get QB to re-link to HMRC for MTD?

The take action page provides three options - which don't provide a route to re-authorising the link.

Need to relink to HMRC MTD. "Take Action" leads to page that doesn't allow for relink. How can I get QB to re-link to HMRC for MTD?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, kkddnelson. The Take action message usually appears if the login credentials used to connect QuickBooks to HMRC are not authorized to retrieve information, QuickBooks is no longer authorized to connect to HMRC, or the VAT registration number in the VAT Centre doesn’t match HMRC’s records.

Here's how you can re-authorise QuickBooks to connect with HMRC:

  1. Go to Taxes in the left menu.
  2. Select Set up MTD
  3. Click Authorise Now, then select Continue.
  4. Log in to HMRC in the pop-up window using your Government Gateway credentials:
    • Enter your HMRC Government Gateway user ID and password.
  5. Select "Give permission" to allow QuickBooks to connect with HMRC.
  6. Once authorized, click Continue, then select Go to Taxes.
  7. When completed, you’ll see an MTD badge on your Taxes dashboard, confirming that MTD for VAT is enabled, and you can now submit a VAT return.
