It’s uncommon for a QuickBooks Online (QBO) company with a UK address to display US state agencies, Jon130. To address this, let’s first confirm that the account is correctly set up as a UK-based company.
Here’s how to check:
- Go to the Gear icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Account and Settings.
- Navigate to the Advanced tab.
- Check the Currency section to ensure it’s set to GBP – British Pound Sterling.
If the settings are correct, let's move forward with reconnecting your Making Tax Digital (MTD). If the “Add Agency” step isn’t part of the reauthorisation process, you’ll need to turn off MTD and re-establish the connection to HMRC.
Here's how:
- Go to Taxes.
- Click the Edit VAT drop-down.
- Select Edit Settings.
- Toggle off the Turn on MTD.
- Follow the QuickBooks prompts for reauthorisation.
- Log in using your HMRC credentials in the pop-up window.
Once reauthorisation is complete, QuickBooks will reconnect to HMRC, and you can continue submitting VAT.
However, if “Add Agency” is part of the reauthorisation process and you’re still seeing US state agencies, I recommend reaching out to our Live Support team to further check on this matter. They will be able to help you identify and resolve the issue to ensure your MTD connection is successfully reestablished.
